A 2.3 million sq. ft. automotive plant in Cleveland, Ohio, faced a significant challenge in their corporate cafeteria and kitchen areas. The 30-year-old quarry tile flooring was loose, cracking, and no longer meeting the demands of the high-traffic environment. Beyond the immediate safety and hygiene concerns, the floors were difficult to clean and lacked the visual appeal required for a corporate setting.
After removing the tile, the facility was left with damaged concrete that required extensive restoration before a new flooring system could be installed. They needed a solution that would provide durability, hygiene, and aesthetic appeal while restoring the integrity of the substrate. That’s when they turned to Stonhard.
Stonclad GS provides this auto plant cafeteria with lasting durability and a non-slip surface.
In the kitchen, Stonclad UT provides a high-performance surface for workers to prepare meals.
Stonhard began by repairing and leveling the damaged concrete with a specialized troweled mortar. In the cafeteria, Stonhard installed Stonclad GS, a heavy-duty epoxy system designed to withstand a high volume of foot traffic and daily wear.
Stonkote GS4, a protective topcoat with a glossy finish, was applied over top, making the surface visually appealing and easy to clean. In the kitchen, Stonclad UT was selected for its exceptional resistance to thermal shock, slip resistance, and ability to perform in wet, high-temperature environments.
The results were transformative. The Stonhard seamless flooring system enhances the functionality of the space while also meeting the client’s standards for cleanliness and aesthetics. The cafeteria floor has a polished, professional look, while the kitchen surface provides performance required for food preparation areas.
